Julia Deans singing New Dialogue takes me right back to the family roadies to Hanmer, in the back of the 323, with Mum and Dad singing in the front. The song itself was released in 2010, when I was 18, after I had left home and started pretending to be grown up.. But the melody just takes me there.
Some of my fondest memories from childhood involved discussions with my dad about the meaning of lyrics, considering them as an extension of who the person was. Julia Deans has that story telling voice and clever lyrics that I’ve grown up with and loved since childhood.
